Groundworks for luxury barn development

A Staddon Groundworks came into the project after the start and quickly got “up to speed” on the requirements from the client.

• The steel frame supplier and erector had been instructed and booked, so we had a deadline to achieve.
• The location was relatively accessible but sat in a quiet and small residential environment where we needed to be mindful of disruption.
• We acted in a Principal Contractor capacity for a number of weeks, necessitating a higher level of involvement and responsibility.
• We needed to structure the work into logical phases to allow the organic development of the site, managing on site space and liaising with suppliers and other interested parties.

• Instructed local setting out engineers Right Start Engineering to provide on site points.
• Set up the site for safe and mindful operation, managing all construction activity.
• Planned and executed a logical programme of works.
• Liaised with the client to value engineer certain aspects of the build, to the financial advantage of the client.
• Excavated, installed drainage, poured foundations, slab and bolt boxes in a logical progression.
• Worked closely with local supplier Plymcrete, we pumped concrete into the footings in sequence.
• Carried out extensive landscaping and regrading of the surrounding site area.

We carefully and thoughtfully managed all on site constrution activity. We held regular meetings with the clients construction manager to communicate clearly and effectively the progress and forecasting.

We communicated openly with the local residents, advising them of planned works, seeking their consent to temporarily block access and having emergency transport on standby during the period.

We liaised with the steel erectors to accomodate them on site safely and to maintain site progress in line with the programme of works.

Works were completed on time, to an excellent high standard. The client was very happy with the progress of the site, the professionalist of our team and our enthusiastic approach to the project.
