Slipway Preservation
Our project brief:
In 2015 we undertook a project to assist with the repairs and regeneration of an historic covered slipway in Devonport, Plymouth.
The slipway itself measures some 53m long and dates from around 1763 and to our knowledge is the oldest of its kind in the world.
We completed the works as follows:
The slipway preservation works were carried out under the watchful eye of traditional yacht builders Sterling & Son, who are overseeing the restoration from the start.
The slipway is of significant historical importance, being an ancient monument akin to Stonehenge and we needed to be mindful of this during our works.
We also had to carry out the works under strict times, ruled by the tides, working quickly and without mistake.
The outcome:
Our works were one phase of a larger project to restore the slipway to its former glory and as you can see from the photos, it will be fully functional for years to come!
